Although Las Vegas is famous mostly for its casinos and for gambling, the city and the area is not just about gambling. There are activities and tourist attractions that have nothing to do with gambling.

One of the main attractions in the Las Vegas area is the impressive Hoover Dam. It is a favorite tourist location and it is close to Las Vegas, less than one hour away from the city. The tour of the inner workings will cost you $11 and you will be able to see how the dam is functioning. The tour of the dam is $30 and is available on arrival on a first come first served basis. Lake Mead is a result of the Dam; you might even swim or fish in the Lake. It is open for visitors daily from 9am to 6pm, except on Christmas Day and Thanksgiving when they are closed.

The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is another great location. This tourist site is amazing and it is a must see location. It is just 20 miles from Vegas, and once you are in, you can hike trails and climb cliffs. It is recommended to visit it in the early morning, as later on when the sun heats all those rocks it will get really hot.

The Yucca Mountain Science Center is yet another destination, being an underground site for nuclear waste and it is run by the US Department of Energy. It can visited totally free of charge and you can find out how the site changes as nuclear waste is deposited. It is never crowded and it is an interesting location for those who are interested in nuclear waste and science. It is located about 100 miles from Las Vegas and the information center is open Monday to Thursday from 9am to 4pm.

For those who are looking for fun, there is the Las Vegas Mini Grand Prix racing site that accommodates adult riders in grand prix cars. It offers something for everybody as it has roller coaster rides, go karts, kid carts as well as an arcade. It is not far at all, just a few minutes away from Las Vegas Boulevard. Tickets cost $6.50 or $6.00 when five more tickets are bought at once, while each ride costs ΒΌ to 1 ticket.

You might try out Gondola Rides at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, which is very relaxing and fun in the same time. You will ride through the canals and admire the shops in the hotel. In case you require singing during the trip, reservations are necessary. The Gondola Ride will cost you $15 per person or $60 for a private ride for two persons.
